Israeli lab; Jamba hybrid architecture. The Nebius acquisition talks reported on 2026-09-30 did NOT produce a sale: the two signed a COMMERCIAL PARTNERSHIP instead, under which Nebius licenses AI21's technology and will productise it in a Nebius context - Nebius is on record that "there is no 'acqui-hire' and claiming otherwise is false and misleading". In the same overhaul AI21 cut more than 60% of its workforce, discontinued selling its standalone models and put all of its resources behind Maestro, its agent-optimisation platform, saying it has signed contracts worth tens of millions of dollars with large international customers that will deploy Maestro, Nebius among them. NVIDIA had walked away from advanced talks to buy the company at a reported $2-3B. The $1.4B mark is the August 2023 Series C and is three years stale: nothing since has priced the company, and a 60% staff cut with the core product discontinued is not the shape of a current unicorn mark.
