Beijing lab behind the Kimi K-series open weights; Kimi K3, released in July 2026, goes near toe-to-toe with the leading closed models on some benchmarks. Closed the final round of private fundraising at about $50B and is heading for a Hong Kong IPO in the first quarter of 2027, considering raising up to $5B in the deal; a round earlier in the summer had valued it at $31.5B, so the mark has nearly doubled twice this year from the $20B May round. Annual recurring revenue is about $1B and reported on track to double by December. Bank of America is overall coordinator with CICC, Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs as sponsors, and the filing is confidential. Backers include Alibaba, Tencent and 5Y Capital. The mark is `reported`, not verified: it is a Bloomberg figure of about $50B from people familiar, with no company release and no filing behind it. Chinese regulators are reported to have opened a data-security probe into both Moonshot and DeepSeek, which adds uncertainty to the listing timetable. An ownership dispute is live ahead of the listing and executives are now in settlement talks over it: Recurrent.ai and some of its investors accuse CEO Yang Zhilin and CTO Zhang Yutao of misleading investors and profiting at Recurrent's expense, and seek compensation equal to 10.5% of Moonshot's original shares - more than $700M against the roughly $30B June round. The claim has been in Hong Kong arbitration since 2024, with a tribunal formed in 2025, and Recurrent's backers are also weighing separate action in the Cayman Islands; Moonshot's counsel has called the case baseless and Yang denies unjust enrichment. One person familiar says it is not expected to jeopardise the IPO, but an unresolved fight raises governance and disclosure questions (Reuters, 2026-10-12).
