Notes

US open-weight frontier lab positioned against Chinese open models; it is sold to governments as AI independence. Its Beam model, introduced 2026-10-05, had its weights RELEASED on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 licence on 2026-10-16 - a sparse mixture-of-experts with 501B total parameters and 23B active per pass, shipped in BF16, FP8 and NVFP4 alongside a speculative-decoding drafter, a model card with final benchmarks and a safety technical report. Reflection says Beam was pretrained end-to-end in under four weeks on a cluster of 6,144 NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 GPUs over 23.8 trillion tokens, with a separate reinforcement-learning phase on about 10,500 GB300s generating more than 100 million rollouts at up to 256K context, and that the sandbox fleet behind that RL peaked at 883,006 virtual CPUs across 23 clusters on GOOGLE CLOUD and AMAZON WEB SERVICES - the figures are the company's own and are not independently verified. Beam was available on AWS, Nscale, Applied Compute and Baseten at launch, which under this map's model-agnostic precedent is catalogue availability rather than an edge. NVIDIA, already an investor and reported to have put in about $800M, is weighing a full acquisition, a larger equity stake, an acqui-hire of the researchers and technology, or simply more chips and compute, with an agreement possibly reached in the coming weeks (FT, 2026-10-10/11, relayed widely). NO PRICE has been disclosed for any structure, and the $25B in the headlines is this company's own March 2026 round price - the mark the map already carries - not a figure NVIDIA has agreed to pay; it was valued at $8B on a $2B round in October 2025. The talks' stage is itself disputed: the FT's framing and some relays say ADVANCED while others say EARLY, and Reflection declined to comment. An acqui-hire would be the sixth instance of the reverse-acquihire shape on this map's radar and the second involving NVIDIA after Groq, whose version the DOJ is probing.
