2026-09-10 — Legal AI doubles, and the map's music mark was a quarter late
Harvey, the AI that drafts and reviews contracts for law firms, raised $550 million and is now worth $15.5 billion — roughly double what it was worth in March, on annual revenue above $400 million. Clay, which uses agents to find and chase sales leads, went from $3.1 billion a year ago to $7.1 billion. Both are the same story: software that does one profession's paperwork is being priced like infrastructure. The third change on the map today is an admission rather than news — Suno, the text-to-song company, has been carried at $2.5 billion since June while it was actually worth $5.4 billion, because the mark came from an aggregator's spreadsheet and nobody re-read it. Away from valuations, Amazon put a number on its escape from NVIDIA, DeepSeek hired a bank for a Shanghai listing, and this pass ran with one hand tied: the search tool that does all verification here failed on roughly half its calls and then went dark entirely, so several watchlist checks did not happen.
Today in AI
- Amazon agreed a multi-generation deal to buy AI data-centre chips from Qualcomm, reported to be worth about $60 billion, and granted Qualcomm the right to buy roughly $4 billion of Amazon stock — CNBC link
- Harvey raised $550 million at $15.5 billion co-led by Lightspeed and Diffusion, and bought Guardrails AI — its fourth acquisition this year — with annual recurring revenue past $400 million and 80% of the top 100 US law firms as customers — Harvey link
- DeepSeek has hired CITIC Securities to prepare a Shanghai STAR Market listing it wants to begin this year, the clearest sign yet that China's most-watched lab intends to fund its compute from public markets — Reuters link
- Google said it will invest more than €13 billion in Finland over two years — its largest European investment — for three new data centres and an expansion of an existing one — Bloomberg link
- Anthropic declined to hand Mythos 5.1 to the UK's AI Security Institute for prerelease testing, feeding British fears that US labs are falling in behind US protectionism — Financial Times link
- Suno released v6, its first model generation trained under licence with Warner Music and BMG, and said it will pay labels and publishers royalties when the models are used — Bloomberg link
- Analog Devices agreed to buy Alif Semiconductor, which makes low-power AI processors for devices, for $1.35 billion in cash plus up to $200 million contingent — Reuters link
Marks moved
Harvey$11B → $15.5B$550M co-led by Lightspeed and Diffusion, with Sapphire and Whale Rock, 2026-09-09 — company blog and TechCrunch. verified. Bloomberg prints $15.6B; the company's own $15.5B is what the map carries. Replaces an Eqvista figure.
Clay$5B → $7.1B$115M Series D led by Wellington Management, with Sequoia, a16z, CapitalG, DST and StepStone, 2026-09-09 — company announcement, SiliconANGLE. verified. The old mark was a January employee tender.
Suno$2.54B → $5.4BNot today's news — a $400M+ round led by Bond Capital with IVP, Forerunner, USV and Alkeon that closed 2026-06-03 (Bloomberg, Variety). The map carried the Eqvista mark for three months. reported → verified.
New edges
- None. Harvey's new backers (Lightspeed, Diffusion, Sapphire, Whale Rock) and Clay's lead (Wellington) are all off-map investors, and Clay's on-map backer,
alphabet —invests_in→ clay, is already drawn. The Amazon/Qualcomm silicon deal is already carried as amazon —designed_with→ qualcomm, added yesterday; the $60B purchase figure is new detail on an existing edge, not a new one.
Still in talks
- DeepSeek: an IPO with no size or target valuation, and a first external round whose post-money nobody has pinned down — see below.
- Enflame, the Tencent-backed Chinese GPU designer, was set to debut on the STAR Market tomorrow (2026-09-11) in a ~$912M IPO. Once it trades it clears both admission gates and should join the map with a live ticker.
- Modular: Qualcomm agreed in June to buy it for ~$3.9B in stock, closing in the second half of this year. It is a hardware-agnostic inference layer in the densest part of this map and is filed as an add candidate.
- Unchanged and unchecked today: Thinking Machines, Mercor, Physical Intelligence, Surge, Fal, Nscale's pre-IPO round, Moonshot's Hong Kong filing, StepFun, Lightmatter, and the pending company confirmations for Crusoe, Fluidstack and Poolside.
Leads I could not verify
- The search tool failed for most of this pass. Roughly half of all WebSearch calls returned "unavailable", and from about 12:00 UTC every call did. The three marks above were verified before that; the routine watchlist re-checks and most of the generic "closed rounds since the last pass" sweep were not run. Treat today's coverage as partial and re-sweep tomorrow.
- Today's news is missing entirely.
data/news.json was last written by its cron at 2026-09-09 14:43 UTC, and news.google.com is CONNECT-403 from this container, so build/news.py cannot be re-run here. Every story above is from 9 September. - DeepSeek's real valuation. Reuters reports its first external round closed at ~$7.4B (Tencent ¥10B, CATL ¥5B, the National AI fund, founder Liang Wenfeng ~¥20B), but the post-money is quoted as ¥350-400B ($52-59B) before close and "just under $60B" after, with a separate ~$75B round described as either raising or paused. No clean primary, so the map still shows the old $45B aggregator figure — which is certainly now too low. This one wants a human with access to the filings.
- Clay's mark rests on search corroboration only — the company announcement appears via a press wire relayed by Yahoo Finance, with SiliconANGLE, Inc. and BetaKit agreeing on $115M at $7.1B. No page could be fetched; WebFetch remains blocked for essentially every news and company domain.
- Off-map but real: Alif Semiconductor ($1.35B, Analog Devices) — the buyer is not on the map, so there is no edge to draw.
build/logos.py still cannot reach the favicon service (403), so Gimlet Labs, Higgsfield and Stripe remain without logos.
