2026-10-29 - Oracle buys everyone's chips, and Google starts selling its own
Oracle spent its own conference announcing that its cloud will rent out other people's AI chips: Google's TPUs from 2027, Cerebras parts for inference and SambaNova's newest inference chip, beside the NVIDIA systems it already runs. Google has never let another cloud sell its TPUs, and the same day OpenAI was reported to be planning to buy them outright rather than renting time. The chip Google built for itself is becoming something anyone can buy, the one thing that would loosen NVIDIA's grip.
Today in AI
- Oracle said its cloud will offer Google's TPUs from 2027, the first hyperscaler outside Google to sell them, and added Cerebras inference and SambaNova's SN50 beside NVIDIA's Vera Rubin systems - Datacenter Knowledge link.
- Google is changing how it sells AI chips, pushing TPUs through other people's clouds, and confirmed reports that OpenAI plans to buy TPUs instead of only renting them - CNBC link.
- Meta's $25B share sale drew orders at five times the stock on offer and priced at $625, part of a roughly $97.5B raise for next year's data centres, with NVIDIA and AMD putting in $4B between them
- Bloomberg link.
- OpenAI said it is standing up an election "war room" before the US midterms to watch for AI-generated misinformation and other attempts to disrupt the vote - Politico link.
- NVIDIA released Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, an open-weight model for transcribing and translating speech in many languages, with an open speech dataset called Granary v2 - SiliconANGLE link.
- GitHub made Copilot Fusion generally available, handing the choice of which model answers a coding question to the tool rather than the developer, and shipped a Copilot app - The New Stack link.
Marks moved
No existing mark moved. Tenstorrent's $1.5B Series E at $6.2B and Instinct's $10B, the loudest headlines in the feed, are figures this map already carries. One company joined:
HIVE Digital Technologiesnew node to $554MPublic market capitalisation of the Nasdaq listing (HIVE), verified, hand-seeded at 2026-10-27 prices and owned by the ticker cron from tonight. Admitted on a contract rather than a round: its BUZZ HPC subsidiary closed a three-year GPU cloud contract worth about $220M on 2026-06-18 to run Cohere's models. HIVE release
New edges
cohere --rents-> hive - about $220M over three years for 2,304 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs at Bell's Merritt, British Columbia site. HIVE company release, 2026-06-18, verified. HIVE restated it at a fixed $225M on 2026-10-27, borrowing $129M at 9.0% against the GPUs for 80% of the cluster.hive --builds_on-> nvidia - the same release names the cluster as GB200 NVL72 racks. Verified.openai --rents-> alphabet - OpenAI added Google Cloud to its own published list of compute suppliers in July 2025, beside Microsoft, Oracle and CoreWeave. CNBC, 2025-07-16, verified. Every other leg of that list was on the map; this one had been missing for fifteen months.
Still in talks
- Cognition has inbound offers at $70B to $80B and is considering a round before year end, weeks after closing more than $2B at $48B. Business Insider, 2026-10-28, early talks. Map stays at $48B.
- Physical Intelligence is negotiating at least $1B at roughly $20B, Avenir and Lux in talks to lead, no size or price set and still no revenue. Bloomberg, 2026-10-27.
- Anduril has considered about $120B for early 2027, while a spokesperson says no financing decisions have been made. The Information, 2026-10-27. Its $90B employee tender closes 2026-11-09.
- OpenAI's up-to-$30B bridge at a $1.25T pre-money is still unsigned, with investors reported to have until 2026-10-30 to commit and the raise possibly landing below that ceiling.
- Anthropic's IPO registration is public but not yet effective, with no share count and no price range; Nscale's range is likewise blank and formal marketing has not started.
- NVIDIA's $3B and AMD's $1B into Meta now rest on each supplier's own release rather than only on Meta's non-binding filing language, but the offerings close only today, so neither is drawn.
Leads I could not verify
- Physical Intelligence's previous mark. The map carries $5.6B from November 2025, while Bloomberg's talks story puts the earlier 2026 round at $11.5B, the May charter authorisation at $11B to $11.2B and trackers at $11.19B. Nobody announced it and no party has stated a figure: three plausible numbers, no mark. A human should read the Bloomberg piece.
- HIVE's $554M seed and its Cohere contract rest on search corroboration, because the company's pages and every quote page are blocked here. The seed cross-checks against $2.02 a share on Nasdaq and CAD 770.7M on the TSX, both 2026-10-27, and tonight's cron replaces it.
- Oracle's three new chip legs are signed and announced but undrawn: this map draws a chip deployment when it lands, not when it is announced, the rule that also holds Microsoft's Maia edge until 2027.
- Samsung Electro-Mechanics and NVIDIA signed an ABF substrate supply agreement, the thin substrate layer's first dated deal. Undrawn: this map has no relationship type for a substrate supplier.
- Simplismart resolves to a real $14M Series B with NVIDIA in, but at "about $100 million" post-money, an approximation sitting exactly on the admission floor with nothing party-stated. Held at gate 1.
- A feed item headlined "Databricks raises $1.6B more" is the August 2021 Series H at $38B, re-dated to yesterday. The carried $190B is current.
