2026-09-09 — The map finds out who owns OpenRouter

Three passes ran today. The last one went looking for deals the news feed had under-read, and found that the map had been wrong about two companies for weeks: Stripe agreed on 19 August to buy OpenRouter — the switchboard that routes traffic to nearly every model on this map — for more than $7 billion, and the atlas was still carrying OpenRouter at the $1.3 billion it was worth in May. In the same sweep, SpaceX's $60 billion purchase of Cursor turned out to have actually closed on 14 August, while the map still said "acquiring". Stripe joins as a node so the ownership line has somewhere to start. Three more valuations that had been resting on an aggregator's spreadsheet — Nscale, Thinking Machines and xAI — now point at the rounds and filings they actually came from. Earlier passes today added Gimlet Labs and Higgsfield and cut Canva from $65B to $31B. Away from the deals, the day's mood was nervous: an Anthropic researcher quit the industry outright, and US security agencies accused Chinese labs of copying American models at industrial scale.

Marks moved

OpenRouter$1.3B → $7B

Not a round — an acquisition. Stripe agreed to buy it on 2026-08-19 (Stripe newsroom, terms not disclosed); the "over $7B" price is Bloomberg and The Information (~$7.5B), so the mark is reported. Roughly 5x its May Series B in three months.

Stripenew → $159B

Added purely to carry the OpenRouter edge. $159B tender offer for employees and shareholders, 2026-02-24, backed by Thrive, Coatue and a16z — CNBC. reported: a share sale, not a round.

Nscale$14.6B (source fixed)

Same number, real provenance: the Eqvista citation is replaced by the company release for the $2B Series C at $14.6B led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, 2026-03-09, plus CNBC. reported → verified.

Thinking Machines$12B (source fixed)

Same number, real provenance and an honest date: the $12B is the July 2025 seed — $2B led by a16z with NVIDIA, AMD, Accel, Cisco and Jane Street — not a June 2026 aggregator snapshot (TechCrunch). reported → verified, as-of moves back 11 months, so it now renders correctly as a stale mark.

xAI$250B (source fixed)

The $250B is the xAI leg of the SpaceX merger of 2026-02-02, not a Value Add VC estimate — CNBC.

Earlier passes today added Gimlet Labs ($3B) and Higgsfield ($5.4B), re-marked Canva $65B → $31B, Groq $6.9B → $3.5B and Cyera $9B → $12B.
