2026-09-13 — Databricks was worth $56B more than this map said, for a month
Sunday is a thin news day — the ticker feed has not refreshed since Friday and the headline feed is a day stale — so this pass spent its time digging through the map's own backlog instead, and found something worse than anything in the news. Databricks, the data platform most large companies train and serve AI on, closed a $5 billion round at a $190 billion valuation on 13 August. Bloomberg, CNBC and TechCrunch all ran it the same day. This map kept showing $134 billion — a real Databricks number, but two rounds out of date — for the next month, because the figure came from a valuation-aggregator spreadsheet that looked plausible and nobody re-checked. Three more aggregator marks (Cohere, Anduril, Figure AI) turned out to have the right numbers behind the wrong sources and dates, and were re-grounded on the actual rounds. In the wider world: the US Senate started drafting a law that would let the government block AI models it judges unsafe, and Google quietly finished a $1.5B-plus deal to hire away an AI coding startup's staff without buying the company.

Marks moved
Databricks$134B reported → $190B verifiedThe round closed on 2026-08-13: $5B led by Coatue, with Blackstone, MGX and T. Rowe Price, and new money from Sixth Street, BOND, Clearlake, Point72, Premji Invest and TPG. Databricks crossed a $7B annualised revenue run-rate in Q2, growing over 80% year on year. The old $134B was the February round; the map had it on an aggregator sheet. Bloomberg · CNBC · TechCrunch
Cohere$7B reported → $7B verifiedSame number, real source and real date. The mark was on an aggregator sheet dated 2026-06-05; it is now the second close of Cohere's $500M round — $100M more at $7B, announced alongside the AMD partnership — and dated to the round itself, 2025-09-24. TechCrunch · Bloomberg
Anduril$30.5B reported → $30.5B verifiedSame number, and a date that was quietly a year wrong. The aggregator sheet carried $30.5B under 2026-06-05; the round is the 2025-06-05 Series G, $2.5B led by Founders Fund with a $1B cornerstone, 8x oversubscribed. The mark now renders as the fifteen-month-old figure it is. TechCrunch · CNBC
Figure AI$39B reported → $39B verifiedSame number, now on the company's own Series C announcement: over $1B at a $39B post-money, led by Parkway Venture Capital with NVIDIA, Intel Capital, Microsoft, Brookfield and the OpenAI Startup Fund, September 2025. Figure · PR Newswire
Roles updated without a mark change: Databricks (the $7B run-rate), Cohere (AMD infrastructure, the $20B talks), Anduril (the $100B talks), Figure AI (the mark is the Series C post, not a current price).
New edges
cohere —builds_on→ amd — Cohere's September 2025 raise came with an expanded AMD partnership: Cohere customers get access to AMD Instinct GPU infrastructure, and AMD is putting Cohere's North platform into its own internal enterprise AI stack. Cohere was explicit that it keeps supporting NVIDIA too, so this is a second silicon leg rather than a switch. Verified, solid line — and it gives Cohere a compute dependency to sit next to its existing rents leg to Oracle.
Still in talks
- Cohere / $20B — advanced talks for $2–3B, including Canadian government money and existing backers, reported as possibly closing within the week (Bloomberg and the Globe and Mail, 2026-09-11). Germany's Schwarz Group said in April it would put in $600M and the German government is said to be in discussions. No close, so the map stays at $7B.
- Anduril / ~$100B — reported in talks since 2026-07-24 (TechCrunch) at more than triple the current mark. No lead named, no close, so the June 2025 Series G stands.
- UniPat AI / Alibaba — re-checked; still "set to close soon" on Bloomberg's original sourcing. One aggregator has started running it in the past tense, which is not a close.
- Stripe / OpenRouter — re-checked; still agreed and not closed, nearly four weeks on. OpenRouter stays
reported and the owns edge stays dashed. - Anthropic — the S-1 is still confidential: no public prospectus, share count, price range, ticker or underwriters. The map stays at $965B.
- DeepSeek — the sourcing got worse, not better: the FT now has it seeking money at ~$71B while Reuters has the open round at ~$75B, and the closed June round is variously described at "more than $50B" and "just under $60B". Four numbers, four outlets, no filing. Unchanged.
- Unchanged and still open: Thinking Machines, Mercor, Physical Intelligence, Surge, Fal, Nscale's pre-IPO convertibles and fall listing (Fidji Simo joined its board on 2026-09-11), Moonshot's dual-listing plan, StepFun, Lightmatter and OpenAI's confidential S-1.
Leads I could not verify
- Every mark this pass rests on search corroboration, not a fetched page. WebFetch is blocked here for essentially every news and company domain. The Databricks round was confirmed by Bloomberg, CNBC and TechCrunch headlines and dates all agreeing on $5B at $190B; Figure's own release appears in search under its exact title. All worth a human opening.
- Perplexity ($20B) and Scale AI ($29B) could not be re-grounded. Perplexity's Series E-6 is reported at $20B (Sep 2025) by some sources and $23B (Jan 2026) by others, all aggregators; Scale's $29B is implied from Meta's $14.3B for a 49% non-voting stake in June 2025 and has never been a priced round. Twenty-four aggregator-sourced marks remain on the suspect list.
- Mechanize is not admissible. The $1.5B-plus Google deal is a price for talent and a non-exclusive licence, not a valuation, and Mechanize continues as an independent company with no priced round — so the valuation gate fails and there is no node to hang an edge on.
- HiddenLayer's $100M Series B surfaced in the generic sweep with no disclosed valuation and no relationship to anything on the map. Held off on both gates.
- Enflame is still showing its hand-seeded $26B. The ticker cron is weekdays-only and last ran Friday, before the shares-count fallback landed, so the weekend has passed with 688801.SS unpriced. Monday's run is the one to check.
