2026-10-14 — Character.AI goes bankrupt, and the map has no way to say so
Character.AI — one of the first consumer hits of the chatbot era, once valued around a billion dollars — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware, with Disney offering $20M for some of its intellectual property and the company warning it will shut the service down if no buyer keeps it running. That forced an unusual decision here: this map only admits companies worth $100M or more, and nothing honest about a bankrupt company clears that bar, so the Character.AI node was deleted rather than carried at a number that is no longer true. The rest of the day was talks rather than deals — Applied Intuition fielding offers at double its last price, Amazon circling Decart, NVIDIA circling Reflection AI — plus one genuinely new company added and one new link drawn between Anthropic and its eighth compute landlord.

New edges
nvidia —invests_in→ decart — NVIDIA joined as a new strategic investor in Decart's $300M Series B led by Radical Ventures, May 2026. reported: no company release carries the cap table. JNSanthropic —rents→ iren — The Information reports an unannounced multiyear cloud agreement between Anthropic and the Nasdaq-listed data-centre operator IREN, value and length undisclosed, neither company confirming. Still in talks
- Applied Intuition — offers at a minimum $30B, possibly a ~$1B raise within months; no round announced, terms can change. The $15B June 2025 Series F stands.
- Amazon / Decart — about $7B, nothing signed, another bidder still possible (WSJ, 2026-10-11). Anthropic walked away from its own ~$6B Decart deal after due diligence; NVIDIA's approach was rebuffed earlier.
- NVIDIA / Reflection AI — takeover, bigger stake, acqui-hire or more compute; no price for any structure, and relays split on whether talks are early or advanced.
- NVIDIA / d-Matrix — a planned investment with no size, terms or timeline. The $5B in the headlines is a separate July raise target, not this deal's price.
- DeepSeek — second round doubled to RMB100B (~$14B) while the RMB500B valuation held steady; nobody states a post-money, and whether RMB500B is pre- or post-money is still explicitly unclear.
- Anthropic — met prospective IPO investors in San Francisco today; the S-1 is still not public on EDGAR, 135 days after the confidential submission. A November roadshow implies a public filing by about 23 October.
- Stripe / OpenRouter — 56 days after the agreement, still not closed, and Stripe's own economics site says so outright.
- NVIDIA / Hugging Face — 42 days after the 8-K, still no decision on whether the deal is notifiable in the EU, and no October coverage at all.
- Unchanged and still open: Nscale (no IPO price range, 26 days), Lambda (up to $4B pre-IPO, unclosed), Baseten (~$26B) and Modal ($750M at $15.75B, Accel leading), Shield AI (30 days, no Series H), UniPat (34 days of "closing soon"), Winverse AI (DeepSeek-led seed agreed, not closed), Decagon (early buyout talks with ServiceNow).
Leads I could not verify
- Decart's $4B rests on search corroboration only — JNS carries the figure in its own title and WSJ relays agree, but no company release states a post-money and outlets split between "$4 billion" and "nearly $4 billion". A human should read decart.ai's own post; the site is blocked from this container. The round's exact day is also unsourced, so the mark is dated
2026-05. - The
anthropic —rents→ iren edge is a single-outlet report that neither party has confirmed, with no value and no term disclosed. Flip it to verified on a company statement, an 8-K or Anthropic's public S-1. - Shield AI $150M round, 8 October — the aggregator fundzwatch asserts one, tied to the X-BAT programme and matched by the US Navy. No reputable outlet carries it. Unverified rather than false; worth a direct search.
- Cipher Digital's proposed $850M convertible note appeared in the company feed only and was not verified this pass. It would be debt, not a valuation, on an entity whose mark the ticker cron owns either way.
- Anthropic's S-1 status is coverage-derived: EDGAR itself is unreachable from this container (CONNECT 403), as it has been every pass.
- Character.AI's user numbers conflict across outlets (163M accounts vs 12M monthly actives), and one outlet's claim that Disney hired the former CEO is uncorroborated. Neither affects the removal, which rests on the filing.
