2026-10-22 - A $450 billion cloud bill, and legal AI reprices again
The money AI companies owe for computing power keeps getting easier to see. A newer draft of Anthropic's stock-market filing, read by the Wall Street Journal, puts about $450 billion of cloud contracts over the next decade that it cannot cancel, and its three biggest lines match what this map already carried for Google, Amazon and Microsoft. On the other side of the same trade, NVIDIA is now paying chip packagers up front to build the capacity it needs. And Legora raised $550M at $8.8 billion, closing the round it was reported a month ago to be seeking, at the valuation the arithmetic predicted.
Today in AI
- A newer draft of Anthropic's IPO filing shows roughly $450B of cloud agreements it cannot cancel, against about $16.3B of revenue and an $80.7B first-half loss that is mostly an accounting charge, and it still has not appeared on the SEC's public database - WSJ link.
- OpenAI said its models and its Codex coding agent are coming to Google Cloud's model catalogue, which would put them on all three large American clouds, while Microsoft stays its main cloud partner - CNBC link.
- PHP's maintainers disclosed a critical memory-handling flaw, nicknamed PHP2Shell, that reaches up to 70% of websites and was found in August by one of OpenAI's models; Cloudflare had protections out for every customer about nine hours before disclosure - Wall Street Journal link.
- Anthropic said Claude flagged 493 security problems across 25 open-source projects and five million lines of code, one of which had gone unnoticed for 21 years - Anthropic link.
- NVIDIA published OpenShell, a reference design for keeping AI agents inside set boundaries and auditing what they do, with Canonical, AWS and BBVA among the first adopters - The Register link.
- OpenAI put advertisements in ChatGPT in 26 more countries, taking it to 83, and said it now has more than 100,000 advertisers against 20,000 in August - The Information link.
Marks moved
Legora$5,600M → $8,800M$550M Series E at an $8.8B post-money led by Atreides Management, with Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity, Glade Brook and J.P. Morgan new in, all funds, so no edge; ARR now above $200M and the US its largest market. 2026-10-21, verified on Bloomberg and The Next Web. The watchlist had this round at $8.5B pre since 22 September; $8.8B is the post it predicted.
New edges
nvidia --commits_to-> amkor - Amkor announced a $1.3B multi-year agreement on 2026-10-21 to expand packaging in South Korea, structured as prepayments and aiming to lift Korean interposer wafer capacity by more than 300% by end-2028; with July's $1.5B Arizona agreement Amkor puts the combined commitment at about $3B. verified, 2026-10-21 link. The structural edge nvidia --packaged_by-> amkor already existed; this is the money.vertex --builds_on-> anthropic - a gap found while checking whether OpenAI had actually landed on Google Cloud. Claude has been generally available on Vertex AI since the Claude 3 family and has its own Model Garden product page, yet only the AWS Bedrock leg was ever drawn. verified on Google's own pages link.
Not drawn: OpenAI's arrival on Google Cloud is announced but not live: GA is "in the coming weeks" and Google's catalogue lists Anthropic, Mistral and xAI but not OpenAI, so it waits for deployment as Maia does.
Still in talks
- Anthropic's IPO: nothing on EDGAR, one day before the date a week-of-9-November roadshow implies. The WSJ's reading of the newer draft is the first outside corroboration the Google, Amazon and Microsoft compute legs have had; they stay
reported until the filing is public. - Nscale's IPO: the FT reports it is still targeting the listing despite sector nerves; no price range yet. Firmus: one low-grade item says NVIDIA is weighing a new investment after the pulled ASX float, with no figure. Solidigm: regulators are now challenging the Nasdaq listing, with SK Hynix shareholders pushing back on the double listing.
- Stripe and OpenRouter, DeepSeek's second round, Amazon and Decart, NVIDIA and Reflection AI, Cohere and AISLE, Lambda, Mercor, Shield AI: checked, all unchanged.
Leads I could not verify
- All three of today's data changes rest on search corroboration. legora.com and cloud.google.com do not resolve from this sandbox, so Legora's own announcement, Amkor's press release and Google's Model Garden pages were read through their titles and dates in result lists. A human should open Legora's newsroom post and Amkor's 8-K.
- Qualcomm buying RISC-V startup Akeana and Helsing taking a minority stake in Destinus were single Dealroom items and neither survived a search; the Qualcomm one looks like a substitution for the Ventana Micro purchase of December 2025. Three GPT model names said to be in private preview on Google Cloud appear in one report only, so are not recorded.
- Pigment raised $250M at $2.3B and fails the edge gate: NVIDIA's stake, announced by Jensen Huang in Paris on 13 October, is in every account still unfinalised, and the named competitors (Excel, SAP, IBM, Anaplan) are a product category rather than a sourced rivalry.
- The packaging layer has one node and nine candidates. A sweep off the Amkor lead named Samsung Electro-Mechanics, ASE, SPIL, Powertech, Ibiden, Shinko, Unimicron, LG Innotek and SK Absolics. Two blockers, both human calls: there is no edge type for a substrate supplier, and each is listed, so each needs a hand-seeded market cap while Yahoo is blocked here.
