2026-09-26 — Anthropic buys a CDN's worth of CPUs, and a lab that builds labs

Anthropic's compute bill grew a new limb today. It signed an $11.6 billion, seven-year agreement with Akamai — the company that has quietly delivered much of the web for twenty-five years — not for the graphics chips everyone fights over, but for ordinary processors, the unglamorous half of running an AI company that the GPU clouds do not sell. Akamai's shares jumped as much as a fifth, and Anthropic walked away with a warrant for up to 5% of the company, so Akamai joins the map with a real edge attached. A second addition came from sweeping a category rather than reading the news: Mirendil, a lab founded by two ex-Anthropic researchers that trains models to do AI research, raised $200 million at $1 billion back in June with NVIDIA in the round, and no instrument pointed at this map would ever have found it. Elsewhere OpenEvidence, the clinical search tool roughly two in five American doctors use, repriced at $15 billion and said it is going into cancer drugs, and Nscale raised $3.36 billion of convertible notes on its way to a New York listing — money that, importantly, does not set a price.

Marks moved

OpenEvidence$12B → $15B

$250M round reported 2026-09-25, Byers Capital and Andreessen Horowitz named as leads; ~50x its ~$300M annualised revenue. reported — no company release or lead-investor post carries the figure, so this rests on search corroboration only — Axios Pro · Business Insider via Reuters newsfeed

Akamai(new) → ~$19.8B

Public company (NASDAQ: AKAM), joining on the Anthropic edge. The mark is a hand seed with a Monday deadline: no primary states a market cap, Yahoo Finance is blocked from this container, so it is derived from the 8-K's own warrant arithmetic (7.7M shares stated as 5% of common) times Friday's after-hours price. build/tickers.py owns this field and must replace it on the 2026-09-28 cron — 8-K · CNBC

Mirendil(new) → $1B

$200M seed closed 2026-06-25, co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins with NVIDIA participating — one of the largest seed rounds an AI company has raised. reported: no company release states the post-money — SiliconANGLE · TechCrunch · Kleiner Perkins

Nscale's $3.36B raise did not move its mark, and that is deliberate — see below.
