2026-11-03 - The lasers behind the AI build-out get a $115B price
The biggest deal of the day was not about chips that think but about the light that moves what they think. Marvell agreed to buy Lumentum, which makes the tiny lasers inside the cables connecting one rack of AI servers to the next, in an all-stock merger the two value at $115B. Both halves of that scarce business join the map today: Lumentum, and its rival Coherent, which NVIDIA put $2B into on the same March day. Anthropic also amended its IPO prospectus and stated the compute number everyone had been guessing at.

Marks moved
Lumentumnot on the map → $82,790MNew node, Nasdaq LITE. The mark is a market cap and belongs to the ticker feed, so it is a hand seed at the 2026-10-28 close, reported because it is read off a quote page. The deal's own arithmetic cross-checks it: Reuters's $102.54B equity value at $1,132 a share, a 23.9% premium to that close, implies about $82.8B. The $115B headline is an enterprise value and, being all-stock, floats with Marvell's shares, so it is not the mark. Joint release · 8-K exhibit
Coherentnot on the map → $39,376MNew node, NYSE COHR, admitted off the optical-layer sweep the Marvell deal triggered. Hand seed read off the Yahoo quote page the ticker cron itself uses, the session after the 2026-11-02 close of $199.95, reported until that cron runs. NVIDIA's $2B investment is the admitting edge.
No existing valuation moved. Anthropic's amendment carries no price range and no share count, so there is still no offering price to mark against and its $965,000M May round stands.
New edges
marvell --owns-> lumentum - the definitive all-stock merger agreement dated 2026-11-01 and announced 11-02, at an implied enterprise value of $115B, 4.5 Marvell shares per Lumentum share. Signed but not closed, so the edge is dashed and reported until it completes in the first half of 2028. Still in talks
- Agility Robotics: Churchill Capital XI's holders approved the merger on 2026-11-02, but the close is still only expected on 11-04 and Nasdaq trading as AGLT from 11-05.
- Anthropic's listing: the amended S-1 still leaves share count and price range blank, so the registration is not effective; pricing reports run from the week of 11-16 to Thanksgiving.
- Re-checked and unchanged: OpenAI's round at a $1.25T pre-money with about $11B committed, Baseten's two tranches at $26B and $30B, Cohere's Series E initial close, and NVIDIA's unsigned residual-value guarantee behind Nscale's second Anthropic building.
- SK Hynix has halted both Solidigm's pre-IPO round and its US listing, on market conditions, regulatory objections to a duplicate offering and shareholder opposition. It has no node, and the filing that would have priced it is now not coming.
Leads I could not verify
- Both new marks rest on search corroboration only. Neither Marvell's investor relations site nor any quote page opens from this sandbox, so the deal terms were read from the titles and datelines of the joint release and the 8-K exhibit, and both market caps from quote-page figures quoted inside search results. A human should read the release body and the 8-K.
- Coherent is carried near $39B and Lumentum near $83B, although Coherent's quarterly revenue is more than double Lumentum's. That inversion is what laser scarcity has done to the layer, and also what a stale figure looks like, so tonight's cron result is worth a glance.
- Forbes says NVIDIA's March photonics money went to Lumentum, Coherent and Ayar Labs. No other account names Ayar Labs, so no third leg was drawn. NVIDIA's purchase commitments to both companies are called multibillion-dollar everywhere and given a figure nowhere, so they are role facts rather than
commits_to edges. - Marvell already buys lasers from Lumentum, and this map still has no relationship type for an optical or component supplier. The same standing gap as the substrate layer.
