2026-11-02 - The company behind ChatGPT's voice joins the map
A quiet Monday after a quiet weekend: no company on this map closed a round, signed an acquisition or priced a listing. What changed is the map itself. A small acquisition in the voice business pointed at a layer nobody here had looked at, and at the end of it sits LiveKit, the company whose software carries your voice to ChatGPT and back. It is worth $1B, it has been on OpenAI's critical path since 2023, and until today it was missing. Elsewhere the mood is the story: insuring the big clouds' debt now costs more than at any time since 2021, and the week's real event, Agility Robotics' shareholder vote, is happening today.
Today in AI
- Anthropic said someone used access to Cursor's extension marketplace to publish a tampered copy of its Claude Code extension, which it neither built nor published - Techmeme link
- The cost of insuring against a debt default at Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta or Oracle has reached its highest level since 2021, which is the bond market pricing the AI build-out rather than cheering it - Wall Street Journal link
- DeepSeek open-sourced Super-Agent, a prototype coding agent that reads developer group chats on its own and offers fixes for what it finds - Bloomberg link
- Meta built a working humanoid robot prototype in three months with the Chinese robotics firm Fourier and is building a second, while saying it has no plans to sell them - The Information link
- Deepgram bought Daily, the company behind the open-source Pipecat voice-agent toolkit, for an undisclosed sum - TechCrunch link
- Guidewire agreed to buy Hyperexponential, which sells AI underwriting and pricing software to insurers, for more than $1.7B in cash - Reuters link
- Writers are editing themselves to look human, dropping em dashes and "not X, but Y" and even adding typos, because AI detectors flag those habits - Bloomberg link
Marks moved
LiveKitnot on the map → $1,000MNew node. $100M Series C at a $1B post-money, announced 2026-01-22, led by Index Ventures with Salesforce Ventures, Hanabi Capital, Altimeter and Redpoint. verified on the company's own release and CEO blog post, with Bloomberg and SiliconANGLE agreeing on the figure. No existing valuation moved: every candidate was a round still being raised, an offering not confirmed settled, or an acquisition not signed.
New edges
openai --builds_on-> livekit - OpenAI built ChatGPT's Advanced Voice on LiveKit Cloud, and the two launched ChatGPT Voice Mode together in September 2023, the week LiveKit open-sourced its Agents framework. verified. LiveKit company release, 2026-01-22.xai --builds_on-> livekit - xAI is named among the companies running voice AI on the platform. reported: it rests on one line of a self-reported customer list and nothing else. Still in talks
- Agility Robotics: the de-SPAC vote is today, the close is set for November 4 and Nasdaq trading as AGLT for November 5, but redemptions cut the gross raise to about $465M from the $620M-plus of June. No node until it lists with a ticker.
- Marvell / Lumentum: no signed agreement, and the week in which one was said to be possible has now started. No Lumentum node until there is a price.
- Baseten: about $2B in two tranches at $26B and $30B, Sands Capital expected to lead. Still not announced by the company; the mark stays at the June Series F.
- OpenAI: about $11B committed against a target cut from $30B to $20B. Mark stays at $852B.
- Cohere: only the October 29 initial close, at CAD 35.7B, with no stated US dollar post-money.
- Anthropic: no amended filing and no price range; the pricing week is still contested.
- Meta / NVIDIA / AMD: see below. The two
invests_in edges stay undrawn.
Leads I could not verify
- LiveKit's own pages are blocked to this sandbox, so the $1B and the customer list rest on search corroboration of the company release and of livekit.com/customers. A human should read both: the customers page reportedly also names NVIDIA, which would be a third edge.
- Meta's $25B common-stock offering turns out to be a forward sale, so Meta receives nothing at pricing and expects about $24.9B on settlement by November 2027. NVIDIA's $3B and AMD's $1B were therefore bought from the banks, not from Meta, and the test for an edge is each buyer's own holdings disclosure rather than the offering closing.
- Lumaril, a New York industrial-autonomy startup, raised $66M at a $400M valuation led by Elad Gil. It clears the valuation floor and fails the edge gate: every backer is a fund or an angel, and being founded by two creators of Palantir Foundry is a biography, not a relationship.
- KuCoin restated Cohere's round as "$700M at $3.57B", which is the Canadian dollar figures divided by ten, and Baseten's as closed at "$300 billion". Neither is a new report.
