2026-11-04 - A $6B AI lab nobody on this map had drawn
Two private marks moved today and both came from reading a company's own words rather than the headlines about it. Hark, the AI lab Figure's founder started last year, turns out to have raised over $700M at $6B back in May with NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and Qualcomm all writing cheques: four of this map's silicon companies in one round, and a node that should have existed five months ago. Fal, which runs the inference behind much of AI image and video generation, more than tripled its mark to $16B. Elsewhere CrowdStrike spent about half a billion on two AI-security startups.
Today in AI
- CrowdStrike agreed to buy Fiddler AI, which watches AI agents in production, for about $400M, and Dreadnode, which attacks them before launch, for about $95M, mostly in cash - Wall Street Journal link
- ChatGPT's consumer product lead said it has reached 1.2 billion weekly users, up 200 million in two months, with search-style queries now running at roughly a fifth of Google's volume - Big Technology link
- China said it will publish broad AI safety standards covering a model's whole life from development to deployment, aimed at its own model makers after a run of security incidents - Bloomberg link
- Anthropic has told investors its chip design team is only fifteen people because Claude is doing much of the engineering work on its custom silicon - The Information link
- Google will let schools switch off its AI tools for students from early 2027, but said any school that blocks AI outright also loses student access to Search - New York Times link
- OpenAI hired Dan Driscoll, until recently US Army Secretary, to run national security work as it chases government contracts - Wall Street Journal link
- Data centre operators short of grid connections are buying jet engines and burning gas through them on site, which gets power in about two years instead of waiting in the queue - New York Times link
Marks moved
Harknot on the map → $6,000MNew node. More than $700M of Series A at a $6B POST-money valuation, led by Parkway Venture Capital, announced by the company on 2026-05-20 and verified because the figure is the company's own: Hark's release. Bloomberg agrees on the figure the next day. The same release names NVIDIA, AMD Ventures, Intel Capital and Qualcomm Ventures as participants, which is what admits it. Rests on search corroboration only, see below.
Fal$4,500M → $16,000MThe Series E and Series F announced together on 2026-11-03: a Sequoia-led Series E earlier in 2026 and a $1.3B Series F led by existing backer Bessemer that closed in October, about $1.65B across the two. fal's own post names the leads but states neither amount nor valuation, so the $16B and the $1.3B are Bloomberg's and the mark stays reported. TechCrunch puts it at double the $8B of April. The map had carried December 2025.
Lumentum and Coherent were hand-seeded yesterday because this routine cannot reach a price feed. This morning's ticker cron took both fields over as it should, to $61,680M and $40,861M, so the seeds are gone and no debugging is needed. Lumentum sits a quarter below its seed, which is the all-stock Marvell deal repricing rather than a bad seed.
New edges
nvidia --invests_in-> hark, amd --invests_in-> hark, intel --invests_in-> hark and qualcomm --invests_in-> hark - all four named as participants in the $700M Series A on Hark's own release, 2026-05-20, NVIDIA directly and the other three through AMD Ventures, Intel Capital and Qualcomm Ventures. Verified; no individual cheque sizes stated, so no amounts drawn.nvidia --invests_in-> fal - fal's own post of 2026-11-03 names NVIDIA as a continuing investor in the Bessemer-led Series F. NVIDIA first came in at the $140M Series D, so this edge has been drawable for a year and was missed.
Still in talks
- Alphabet is in talks to acquire the AI assistant startup Howie AI, no price and no comment from either side - Axios, 2026-11-02. Howie is off the map, so nothing is drawn.
- Agility Robotics: holders approved the Churchill Capital XI combination on 11-02 with over 84% of votes cast in favour, and the close and the Foxconn-led PIPE were expected today, with AGLT due to trade 11-05. No closing notice is out as of 11:00 UTC. Tomorrow's pass adds it.
- Anthropic's amended prospectus still has no price range and no share count, and under the 15-day rule the roadshow cannot begin before 2026-11-10.
- Baidu's chip unit Kunlunxin may push its Hong Kong listing to next year while it waits on the Chinese securities regulator, per Bloomberg on 11-03. Baidu denied the report the same day.
- CrowdStrike's two purchases are signed, not closed, and the prices are the Journal's, not either company's.
Leads I could not verify
- Hark's $6B and its investor list, and fal's own funding post, rest on searches restricted to hark.com and fal.ai. Both sites are blocked to this routine, so a human should open hark.com/articles/hark-announces-usd700-million-fundraising-round and fal.ai/blog/series-e-f to confirm them.
- Agility Robotics: two newer Churchill Capital XI 8-K and 425 filings are in the search index and may be the closing release, but www.sec.gov cannot be opened from here.
- Kling AI's post-money is still nobody's statement. The ~$18B everybody repeats is arithmetic on the RMB19.8B the round raised, so the mark stays at the $15B pre-money.
- Fiddler AI would clear the floor at the Journal's ~$400M, but CrowdStrike has no node, so there is no edge to admit it. Same shape as the standing Salesforce question.
- An ASE unit agreed on 11-03 to buy T$3.03B of machinery from Tokyo Electron, which is on the map. ASE is now the best-dated candidate for the empty packaging layer and needs only a market cap this routine cannot fetch.

Validator: 0 errors, 1 warning (biren and turing have no edges, standing backlog). Commit: one new node (Hark) with four investor edges, one mark moved (Fal) with its NVIDIA edge, and hand-seed prose retired from Lumentum and Coherent now the ticker cron owns both.
