AMD agreed last night to buy World Labs, the spatial-intelligence lab Fei-Fei Li founded, for about $8.2 billion in stock — the largest AI acquisition since NVIDIA's deal for Hugging Face three weeks ago, and a straight bid to own the software layer above its chips rather than sell into someone else's. Li joins AMD as chief scientist. It broke into Monday evening, after this map's news feed had already closed for the day, which is a useful reminder that the feed is not the instrument that catches things: the generic sweep is. The same sweep also brought in SiMa.ai, a San Jose company that builds chips for AI that has to run inside a robot or a drone rather than in a data centre, priced at $1.45 billion yesterday. And the day produced one edge from two companies already on the map: Cerebras is selling Gimlet Labs 100 megawatts of its wafer-scale systems.

Not a research finding — the weekday ticker cron ran Monday night and replaced Friday's hand-derived seed with a real market cap. The seed was 26% high: it read the Anthropic warrant's "7.7M shares = up to 5% of the company" as implying ~154M shares outstanding, when a warrant percentage is as-converted, not basic
The World Labs move is worth one extra sentence. The old $5B existed only in a SiliconANGLE report, because World Labs' own February funding release stated no valuation — one of the handful of marks on this map with a number but no primary behind it. An acquisition agreement replaced it with a figure in AMD's own press release, an 8-K and the target's own blog post. Caveat: an all-stock price is not fixed, and the share count here is set by a ten-day average of AMD's stock just before closing.

Its Series C investors are all funds, which is how a dozen good companies have been kept off this map, and a pass that stopped at the latest round would have logged another miss. Micron's cheque was in a separate announcement five months earlier; the TSMC and Arm links are in the chip's own spec sheet, not in any round at all.
