2026-10-25 - Pathos joins the map on a data deal, not an investor list
No price on the map changed today; the shape of it did. One company joined and four relationships were drawn, three of them from facts the map had already half-read. Pathos AI, a Chicago drug developer, gets a node because Friday's round came bundled with a five-year data licence from Tempus AI, already on the map; yesterday's pass held Pathos off for want of a counterparty while looking in the wrong half of the announcement. NVIDIA turns up as a new backer of the video company Higgsfield. And two older gaps closed: Google's cloud has served OpenAI's open models for fourteen months without the map saying so, and Replit has quietly made OpenAI its default.
Today in AI
- Britain will put £100M into a new AI Biosecurity Lab to test whether models can help design biological weapons, with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind supporting it - BBC link.
- OpenAI says it will stop letting frontier models reach the live internet while they train, and has built an "offline world" of cached web pages for them to practise in until its safeguards catch up - Bloomberg link.
- Under a programme called Project Daybreak, OpenAI is letting vetted partners use its strongest hacking models to find and fix software holes - Forbes link.
- Homeland Security ordered federal civilian agencies to tear DeepSeek out of their systems and stop buying anything built on its models - South China Morning Post link.
- China's Moonshot AI released Kimi K3.1 Pro and deliberately held back its ability to help with cyberattacks, saying it will publish the full weights by November - The Economic Times link.
- Bristol Myers Squibb led a $237M round in Pathos AI and bought three years of exclusive access to its drug-discovery platform for brain disease, with Tempus AI supplying the data - STAT link.
- Replit's chief executive says OpenAI is now the default model behind its app-building agent rather than Anthropic's Claude, after what reporters describe as a steep discount - TechCrunch link.
Marks moved
Pathos AInot on the map → $3,000MNew node. $237M Series E led by Bristol Myers Squibb at a reported ~$3B post-money, 2026-10-23, up from $1.6B after the May 2025 Series D. reported: the company release names BMS as lead but carries no valuation, so the figure is STAT's and Axios's
No existing mark moved. Higgsfield's 2026-10-23 Series B extension disclosed no size and no valuation, so it stays at the August $5.4B.
New edges
pathos --trains_on-> tempus - Tempus will assemble a de-identified dataset of hundreds of thousands of neurology patients, which Pathos licenses for up to $55M over five years. In Pathos's own release and filed by Tempus on an 8-K. verified, 2026-10-23 link.nvidia --invests_in-> higgsfield - NVIDIA and TCV joined an extension of the $5.4B Series B, on the company blog and in Bloomberg the same day. verified, 2026-10-23 link.vertex --builds_on-> openai - not the GPT-6 models announced on 10-21, still private preview, but OpenAI's open-weight gpt-oss models, generally available in Google's Model Garden since a Vertex release note of 2025-08-13, the identical arrangement the map already drew on Amazon's Bedrock. verified link.replit --routes-> openai - OpenAI is the default model in Replit Agent on the chief executive's own account. The Anthropic edge stays: customers can still pick Claude and neither company has ended anything. verified, 2026-10-17 link.
Still in talks
- OpenAI: the up-to-$30B raise at a $1.25 trillion pre-money is still unsigned; investors were asked to commit by the end of this coming week. Anthropic's IPO: still confidential, still nothing on the SEC's public database, now two days past what a week-of-9-November roadshow would have required. Nscale's IPO: price range and share count still blank, marketing not started.
- Cohere and AISLE: the "Cohere to acquire" headlines of 10-24 are a late relay of the 10-15 letter of intent; no definitive agreement, no price. Agility Robotics: shareholders vote 2026-11-02, Nasdaq listing to follow in November as AGLT.
- DeepSeek: about 100 billion yuan raised and no post-money published, so the map stays at $51,820M. CITIC Securities is advising the Shanghai listing and a first finance chief is being hired.
- Amazon and Decart, NVIDIA and Reflection AI, Stripe and OpenRouter, Cohere and Aleph Alpha, Lambda, Baseten, Mercor, Shield AI, Firmus: checked, unchanged.
Leads I could not verify
- Everything above rests on search corroboration. No primary page opens from this sandbox, so the Pathos, Higgsfield and Google pages were read from titles and dates in result lists with reputable outlets agreeing. A human should open the Pathos release to see whether it states a valuation, which would settle the mark.
- Pathos's $237M and $3B appear in no company document found today, and one secondary outlet's per-record fee structure for the Tempus licence is single-sourced, so only the $55M headline is recorded. Replit's reported terms, more than $100M a year at a discount of more than 30%, come from The Information today and none of the three companies confirms them. Stripe and OpenRouter: outlets still print "completes" over bodies with no confirmation and no close date.
