2026-10-09 — Who owns the building
The biggest AI story of the day was a subtraction: OpenAI told investors its annualised revenue was about $50B at the end of September, roughly $20B below the figure circulating for weeks — and the gap turned out to be an accounting definition rather than a shortfall, because the higher number counted sales made through cloud partners the way Anthropic counts them. Chip and cloud stocks fell anyway. On the map, Manus finally closed the $500M round it had been about to close for three weeks, and a sweep of the listed companies that physically own AI data centres turned up a whole tier the atlas had no node for: the landlords under Anthropic's, Amazon's and Microsoft's compute, with Google guaranteeing the rent at three of them.
Today in AI
- OpenAI's own end-September annualised revenue is about $50B, not the ~$70B reported recently; the higher figure grossed up partner-channel sales the way Anthropic does, and $70B is now a year-end target instead — CNBC link
- NVIDIA, Oracle and CoreWeave all slid on that disclosure, the first time an argument about how revenue is counted has moved the AI infrastructure trade — CNBC link
- The IPO of NVIDIA-backed data centre operator Firmus is in trouble, its offer price cut about 25% after the book stalled, with buyers noting only a twentieth of the capacity it has sold is built and running — Bloomberg link
- Manus's parent Butterfly Effect raised more than $500M, its first money since Chinese regulators forced it to unwind Meta's purchase, co-led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital — TechCrunch link
- Arena, which runs the leaderboard labs quote when they claim a best model, raised $200M at $3.1B and launched an index for measuring whether models and agents do what people actually intend — TechCrunch link
- GlobalFoundries will make silicon interposers for TSMC in a five-year, $2B deal at its New York fab, putting a US source under the packaging step that has been the hard limit on AI chip supply — Reuters link
- Anthropic changed its usage policy to prohibit sustained and needless cruelty toward Claude, with ending the conversation as the main enforcement — Techmeme link
- SK Hynix's flash unit Solidigm picked Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley for a US listing that could raise about $10B as soon as 2027 at a valuation of up to $100B — Bloomberg link

Two entities were added, both public companies on live tickers whose hand-seeded caps tonight's ticker cron should replace: Hut 8 (HUT, ~$11,000M) and Boost Run (BRUN, ~$960M).
New edges
fluidstack —rents→ hut8 — 15-year, 245 MW triple-net lease at River Bend, Louisiana, $7.0B over the base term and up to $17.7B with renewals, where Fluidstack runs compute for Anthropic. Hut 8 press release and 8-K, 2025-12-17. Verified.alphabet —commits_to→ hut8 — Google backstops the lease payments and pass-through obligations for the full 15-year base term, plus a second backstop behind the operations agreement; that credit is what let Hut 8 price a $3.25B investment-grade bond. Same filing. Verified.nvidia —rents→ hut8 — the 352 MW Beacon Point lease in Nueces County, Texas, $9.8B base and up to $25.1B, is where Lambda's reported $35B Anthropic deal lands. Hut 8's filings do not name the tenant; the FT reports it as NVIDIA. Reported.cohere —rents→ boostrun — about $525.6M over five years for dedicated NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 capacity, signed 2026-09-30, part prepaid. Boost Run's release named only "a leading sovereign AI company"; its 8-K of 2026-10-06 names Cohere. Verified.boostrun —builds_on→ nvidia — NVIDIA Preferred Cloud Provider with Exemplar Cloud status on Blackwell, per its own release. Verified.tsmc —fabricated_by→ gf — five-year, $2B agreement for silicon interposers with embedded deep trench capacitors for TSMC's CoWoS packaging, made at GlobalFoundries' Malta, New York fab, ramping H1 2028. GlobalFoundries release plus Reuters, 2026-10-08. Verified.
Still in talks
- Isomorphic Labs — early talks at $40-50B, up from an unofficial $15-20B in September; no investors named, nothing closed, and its $2.1B Series B never disclosed a post-money, so it still cannot be added (Bloomberg).
- Firmus — mid-IPO, price cut from A$11 to about A$8.25, ASX debut targeted 23 October. Held off until it lists with a ticker, on the Agility Robotics rule.
- Arena (LMArena) — $3.1B is a real mark, but all three of its rounds name only venture funds, and ranking a model is not a relationship. Salesforce Ventures is in this one too: the fifth time Salesforce has sat one step off the atlas.
- Solidigm — banks picked and a pre-IPO round being finalised, but nothing filed and SK Hynix still on record that no plan is confirmed. Reuters' $150B and Bloomberg's $100B remain 50% apart.
- DeepSeek's second round — at least RMB80B committed against RMB50B sought; the RMB500B (~$74B) figure is sought, not a stated post-money, so it is not carried.
- Unchanged and still open: Lambda's $4B pre-IPO round, Modal at $15.75B with Accel leading, Baseten at ~$26B, Stripe/OpenRouter at 51 days with no close notice, and Anthropic's S-1, still not on EDGAR eleven days after Reuters obtained it.
Leads I could not verify
- Both new entities carry hand-seeded market caps read off quote pages, because Yahoo Finance is egress-blocked in scheduled runs. If tonight's cron does not replace them, the ticker needs debugging rather than another day's wait.
- The Manus $4B rests entirely on pre-close reporting — the company announced the round and withheld the number. It also closed above the $500M that was talked, so the real post-money may be higher and nobody states it. Dealroom calls the round a "US$323.5M Series B"; one relay names CATL as a new investor and nobody else does.
alphabet —commits_to→ hut8 reads a payment guarantee as that edge type's "funded by" direction. It follows this map's Broadcom and Fluidstack precedents, but it is a reading a human may want to overturn.- The Boost Run 8-K and Hut 8's filings were read through search results, not fetched: www.sec.gov returns CONNECT 403 here. Both documents' titles, dates and URLs appear in the result lists.
- A claim that the EU has opened an in-depth review of NVIDIA/Hugging Face appears in one German-language outlet and nowhere else; searched directly again today, still uncorroborated.
- Four more listed AI data-centre landlords clear both gates on a first reading and were left for a pass that can verify them one at a time: TeraWulf (401 MW leased to Anthropic), Applied Digital (400 MW to CoreWeave), Cipher Digital (anchor tenant Amazon) and IREN (Microsoft, plus a $3.4B NVIDIA contract).
